Volunteers are beautiful people! Bringing good people like these and good causes together is what we do. In this section, you will find resources to get you started and keep you going.

To see a list of all available volunteer opportunities simply scroll down (below) or, if you prefer, begin (above) by clicking on a skill that interests you or a particular location (city) where you'd like to volunteer.

  • Office Assistant/Front Desk Reception

    Answer the phone and greet disaster clients as well as volunteers who come into the office. Position may also include mailing projects, inventory projects and other clerical duties.

  • Disaster Volunteer Coordinator Internship

    Self-motivated team player who is committed to community service will gain experience in volunteer management, community partnerships and disaster education presentations. Duties may include inventory management, event planning, volunteer trainings, public speaking, writing, data entry, disaster response and much more. A great "foot in the door" opportunity.

    Qualifications: Comfortable using computers, quick learner and independent worker. High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • DAY OF CARING PROJECT ESTIMATOR

    In preparation for the Annual Day of Caring, skilled volunteers are needed to help with project estimates.   You should have a working knowledge of home repairs, construction and/or roofing,  You don't need to be a building trades expert, but should be knowledgeable  enough to inspect a project and write up a materials/supply lists required to get the job done.

  • Scanner Operator

    Opportunity Start Date - End Date: 4/24/2013 - 8/30/2013

         Organization: Cardinal Services
         Frequency: weekly
         Location: Warsaw

    Can you run a simple copy machine? Then you can run our scanner! We are converting Cardinal's historical records from hard-copy archives to digital archives by scanning. This is not a difficult job - just time consuming.

    We hope to have the project completed by the end of the summer, so if you are looking to give 2-4 hours/week in an office setting, this is the volunteer job for you!

    Scanning at our machine requires standing but no lifting.

  • Short Term Summer Volunteer

         Organization: Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana - Michiana

    Empower girls by delivering pre-planned, short-term Girl Scout activities to girls K-5 grade.  Program times are flexible, and can be arranged to fit the needs of the girls and YOUR schedule.  Training will be provided.

    Ideal candidates will enjoy working with youth, possess strong communication skills, and have reliable transportation.  Site locations may vary, so ability to travel within Kosciusko County is preferred.

    Volunteers must be 18 years or older and willing to become a registered member of GSUSA.

  • Northern Indiana Lakes Festival

    The Northern Indiana Lakes Festival is a water celebration and education event held right here in Kosciusko County. Events and activities include a ski show, canoeing, free water bottles, food vendors, music, a business expo and much more. But we need a lot of help to make this event happen. If you can volunteer your time it will be much appreciated and you'll get a free Lakes Festival t-shirt! The festival is June 7-9 in the Warsaw and Winona Lake area.   • Food Pantry Volunteers

    We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to a 2-4 hour period on a weekly basis to volunteer in our food pantry. (Our working hours are 9-4 Mon.Tues.Thur. and 9-12 Wed. and 9-1 Fri.) Volunteering will consist of walking with clients through the food pantry while assisting them with choosing items from their shopping list. Volunteers will also help bag and carry the groceries out to the client's car.

    Becoming a Cardinal Friend means meeting with the same Cardinal client periodically (it could be once/month or a few times per year, or once/week - that's entirely up to you). Your visits should consist of common social activities - visiting over coffee, watching a favorite TV program together, going out to eat, taking in a movie, or walking around the park or WalMart for some exercise
    - whatever you would do with a friend.

  • Youth Mentor

         Organization: Syracuse Community Youth Initiative

     Spend time mentoring junior and senior high youth at the Syracuse Community Center, during our Thursday evening program, called Rock Solid.  Rock Solid meets from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday afternoons. Activities include a game room, free food, tutoring and mentoring. 
    Training is provided.  A background check is required.

    For those interested in volunteering for CASA but unable to make the committment to be trained and serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, there are still a number of ways you can contribute your time and talents to our program, including those listed below. To inquire about CASA's need for "non-advocate" volunteer support, please contact CASA at (574) 372-2401  or email Stacie Danahy at sdanahy@kcgov.com.  

    Ways that you may be able to support the CASA program:

    • Writing/layout/editing/publication/distribution of the program's newsletter
    • Grant writing
    • Filing/administrative
    • Designing a website, or maintaining current information on a program website
    • Recruiting volunteers: public speaking, staffing tables at events, talking to friends
    • Hanging CASA posters in your community
    • Providing data entry
    • Inviting CASA staff to present a program to their community or civic group, recruiting volunteers, requesting a donation, etc.
    • Getting CASA information out in their workplace via e-newsletter, posters, brochures in pay envelopes, etc.
    • Organizing a fundraiser or contacting businesses for in-kind donations: food, prizes in connection with a special event or for volunteer recognition, office supplies, etc.
    • Presenting an in-service training workshop on a topic about which you have professional expertise
    • Making your home, workplace or other facility available to the CASA program for training, volunteer recognition, special events, etc.
    • Serving on governing boards or advisory councils or their committees

    Habitat is looking for experienced individuals to do the initial prospecting, estimating and ultimately managing of the project.  If you have the ability to look at a house, note and prioritize the 1-5 exterior things that need to be worked on, estimate the cost in terms of materials and volunteers necessary then you are a welcome addition to our team.  If you also have the ability to lead and manage the volunteers to complete the project then by all means the opportunity is yours.

       The meals are picked up in Syracuse at Miller's Merry Manor and delivered between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
